R&Q Author Services came into existence in 2026, but founder Rosie J. Potter had been dreaming of starting this company for much longer.

R&Q offers a variety of editorial and related services for authors pursuing both indie and traditional publishing. As an author with a foot in both self-publishing and traditional publishing, Rosie understands that while they are two sides of the same coin, each approach has different needs. From query package critiques to full developmental edits to mentoring/workshopping sessions, Rosie is here to help you on your writing journey.

PLEASE NOTE: R&Q Author Services will not edit work that has been generated by AI such as Sudowrite, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and others. Rosie is not going to use ChatGPT to edit, so she expects work submitted to her to be human-generated and not generated by a program trained on stolen work. If you use ProWriting Aid, Grammarly, AutoCrit, etc., to self-edit at the line-level, that is acceptable. Generating the book with AI and expecting the editor to fix all the hallucinations, plot inconsistencies, character mix ups, strange word usage, etc., is not.

Editing Style

About Rosie's Editorial Style

As an author, Rosie knows what it’s like to await feedback and how devastating it can be to receive critique that is not delivered professionally or is downright mean. It takes a lot of courage to let someone else read your work and open yourself up to a critical assessment. Rosie believes it should always be a constructive and elevating experience.

Rosie’s mission will always be to help the author’s voice bloom and enhance the story that is already on the page. The story the author wants to tell. Not to chop it up and turn it into the story she would tell. Rosie recognizes that each author’s voice is unique and that’s what makes the story shine. With every edit, she strives to elevate what is already on the page, offer ideas to strengthen the foundation of the story without changing the heart of it, and pinpoint the author’s strengths to help bring the weaknesses up to meet them.

If she suggests a major change that has to do with the foundation (like missing necessary beats or pacing issues), it will come with a detailed explanation of why she’s pointing it out, what issues the change could fix, and the ripple effect it will have on the story. Rosie usually offers multiple ideas with varying degrees of impact when it comes to a major change. All of which are meant to be suggestions that could spark another idea that accomplishes the same thing but is more suited to the author’s voice and vision.

Rosie is happy to edit almost any genre, but has the most experience across romance and speculative fiction.

Credentials

Rosie's Credentials

Rosie J. Potter is an agented author. Her contemporary romance debut The Tinsel Twist will release from Turner Publishing in December 2026. Rosie is also Co-Director for the WRITE Track at Multiverse Con, former ghostwriter, and indie author (under a pseudonym). She has a Master’s degree in Instructional Design, currently works for a major public university, and is a former teacher. A coworker who does not know she’s a writer asked her to proofread an article for a magazine because she didn’t know anyone else with an eye for detail like Rosie.

Rosie received 14 manuscript requests, 2 offers of publication, and 1 agent offer while querying, and The Tinsel Twist received an advance-paying publishing offer. Rosie was the winner of the 2025 Georgia Romance Writers’ Maggie Award for Excellence in PrePublished Contemporary Romance for a sports romance, judged by a Harlequin editor. In 2025 alone, she alpha/beta read over 10 novels and short stories, plus did countless query/synopsis critiques and judged for multiple contests, both unpublished opening pages and published full-length novels. These experiences have helped her develop a keen eye for detail and story structure. She is currently enrolled in the Editorial Freelancers Association’s Developmental Editing courses to hone her skills further.

Her background in education also makes her great at listening, figuring out what’s not working, and delivering potential solutions tailored to each author.

Genres Accepted

Genres

Romance - New Adult/Adult

Romance is my specialty, especially contemporary, but I'm well-equipped for other genres with romance as a subplot or genre mashup (romantasy, horromance, etc.).

Caveat: I may not be the best fit for historical romance if you want someone to check your historical accuracy. I can evaluate the story structure and romance plot, and do love Tessa Dare and Bridgerton, however someone with more of an eye for historical accuracy might be a better fit.

All spice levels and pairings accepted, but please submit trigger warnings for dark/taboo in your project request form so I can decide if I'll be comfortable editing it.

Romance should always have a central love story and end in a Happy For Now (HFN) or Happily Ever After (HEA). This also includes erotic romance.

Other genre fiction accepted:

  • Fantasy (including, but not limited to: epic, contemporary, urban, dark, paranormal)

  • Horror (Extreme subgenres/splatterpunk on a case-by-case basis)

  • Sci-fi (Project dependent, not a good fit for hard or military scifi)

  • Thriller/Suspense

  • Erotica (Great blog on difference between romance, erotic romance, and erotica)

  • Fiction with romantic elements (Dramatic romance, tragic endings, no HFN/HEA, etc.)

  • Mainstream/commercial fiction

  • Women’s fiction

Not the best fit for Young Adult or Middle Grade, but will consider it on a case-by-case basis. I am also not a great fit for literary fiction, poetry, or screenplays/scripts.
