Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds! Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting! Let’s rock the neurotic writing world! Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
The awesome co-hosts for the January 8 posting of the IWSG are Rebecca Douglass, Beth Camp, Liza @ Middle Passages, and Natalie @ Literary Rambles!

January 8 question - Describe someone you admired when you were a child. Did your opinion of that person change when you grew up?
***************
Hello, friends!
I cannot believe it's 2025. What a wild ride last year was.
Normally, I've done a goal post by now, but I haven't gotten around to it, so instead of answering the prompt for today, I'm going to talk about writing goals for the year.
I think I've blocked out a lot of my childhood... and let's face it, growing up in the 90s a lot of our childhood heroes turned out to be kinda icky people ten or twenty years later. Except maybe Mr. Rogers and Levar Burton.
And honestly, in some ways, it's not so much that the people that I admired changed, it's that I changed. My worldviews shifted drastically in my teens years people I admired as a kid I didn't see in the same light anymore. So there you have it.
On to some Writing Goals for 2025 and what I've been. working on the past month.
Writing Goals for 2025
Again, I have rather lofty goals for this year, as I do every year. Did I hit all my goals last year? No. Did I hit the biggest goal? To query and get an agent -- yes.
So here's what I'd like to accomplish in 2025.
Sell my book! Yes, I know this is out of my control whether a publisher wants to buy my book or not, but it's still a thing I hope happens this year, so it's on my list. And I'll do everything that is within my control to help make it happen.
Finish writing SportsWIP (I have about 7 chapters left) and hopefully get it polished up and ready to go on submission.
Flesh out the plots of the other three books that will go in the quarter with SportsWIP to hopefully sell them as a 4-book deal. They are ChefWIP, GamerWIP, and MusicianWIP. All contemporary romances.
Rewrite my urban fantasy Phoenix Rising.
Write a reader magnet for my newsletter.
Keep subbing my short horror story 'Under the Surface' and finish another short horror story I have started to try to find a home for it.
Uh, yeah. I think that about covers it. That's more than enough to keep me occupied this year. But I do think they're fairly feasible.
It was nice when I was making my goal list this year to focus on drafting again. Last year I had so much editing and "administrative" stuff when it came to querying and revising my submission package and researching agents and then researching self publishing and trying to stay on top of all of that. As a result of that, I didn't finish a single WIP last year. I started SportsWIP in 2023 and really tried to get it done in 2024, but it didn't happen.
It's really refreshing to feel like I will have the time to actually write again this year now that I have an agent and can stop the grind of trying to find someone or trying to self-publish.
Now, I just have to do it! I've set up a 5-7pm writing time, directly after work. It seems to work most days, Monday through Thursday at least. Friday is a little iffy and the weekend is a free-for-all, but having an intentional writing time has helped me start to make progress on my goals. I've written 9k on SportsWIP just this week and 12k for the year.
Thanks for stopping by!
Would love to hear what your goals are for 2025!

For now,
Rosie J.
